New Year Review 2: How Timeline Can Add or Take Pressure off
I just wanted to share with you the reflection that has taken place this week in my Adult Yoga class, in relation to our New Years Goals or Wishlist Review. You may find it useful too.
Our Reflection this week was about how Time can add pressure or alleviate pressure with respect long term, medium term or short term goals. In fact don't they say that the best questions to test your goals are such as
How would you change your goals if you
-found out you d live for ever
-found out you only had 1 more year on earth
There comes the idea of Productivity and Prioritisation in our purpose, objectives or goals, Moving timelines and goal posts can help, in particular in helping change behaviour and attitude as if we have all the time in the world, and putting things into perspective. Lacking time, or stacking too much in too little time is definitely a recipe for heightened stress and can lead to anxiety. Am I rushing? or Am I dragging ? and why?could be a good question to ask oneself.
Chris Bailey, speaker writer and author talks about prioritisation of tasks and categorisation in whether tasks are adding to stimulation with Dopamine hits and how we can be so much more creative if we can be off the screen.
He says that to be able to be more productive, we need a bit of fluidity and space to adapt and respond. A bit like the space between the logs can fuel fire or the space between the breaths can provide stillness. Distraction is a symptoms of being over stimulated, which is why we find it difficult to focus when we are overwhelmed, not to mention the disconnection within the pre-frontal cortex.
He suggests to set yourself a Challenge:
-notice what happens to your attention, focus and creativity if you can make your mind less stimulated. Become aware of how you spend your time. Disconnect from screens from 8pm to 8am to help reconnect with the tangible world, and perhaps even find boredom
-another exercise might be to hold a time / task diary for a week to see how you actually spend your time between Family/Work/Play/Chores etc… (I am doing this!)
The state of our attention determines the state of our mind . When we are more focused, we are less scattered in the moment, more productive and lead a better life. The State of our Attention is after all what the Yogis aim to master 🙂
This again goes to show that teaching ad practising Yoga is about sharing and developing Life skills. If you fancy joining our Yoga Teachers team, why not train/continue to train with us
I look forward to hearing your news.
Happy Practice
