Easy Take Aways That Can Really Improve Your Childs Health

I am loving the Yoga and Health podcasts I have been listening to recently.  It seems that the health themes online in 2022 are all about the Nervous System, the Immune System, and now the Gut-Brain connection.

I have learned some fantastic facts that me, you and our families can all make great use of for the benefit of our health and the health of our children too.

The nervous system and the immune system are very much linked since stress is an important factor in creating inflammation around the body. The polyvegal theory in particular highlights the 3 states of our nervous system, 2 of which Dorsal and Fight or Flight create inflammation when revved up, as well as creating depression and anxiety. The role of the Vegas nerve in particular is to communicate between the lower organs and the brain, with 80% of messages being picked up by the brain from lower centres and 20% of messages being sent to lower organs by the brain.

Stress, and Sleep can both be nurtured by health rituals and practices such as Yoga and Mindfulness.

Mindfulness, Movement (such as Yoga), and any other mindful embodied discipline that we engage into and that make us feel connected to ourselves, to our purpose, to others or to nature are all excellent practices to pacify the nervous system, connect to our ventral state, and release the oxytocin hormone, a most anti-inflammatory hormone that make us feel happy and in control. Needless to say Yoga and Mindfulness and in particular Heartfulness practices are instrumental in bringing awareness, getting physically involved, and creating a sense of safety, calm, and joy. Gratitude practices can be really soothing at bed time, something you can do with your child on regular basis. First buy a gratitude rose quartz stone that you can give to your child (>4 years old) and bring attention to calm and joyful sensations, bring attention to calm quiet breaths and feelings of warmth, coziness, contentment and love. Feel grateful for what you have.

Foods and Chemicals can also have a massive impact on inflammation around our bodies.  Food sensitivities in particular cause an immune system response which is meant to protect us, just as when our bodies come into contact with virus and bacteria. Even when we do not have any food intolerance, poor diet, high level of chemicals exposure, poor good gut bacteria and high bad gut bacteria can lead to imbalance in the gut in the large intestine (and possibly in the small intestine too sometimes) to produce dis-bioses, which may lead to leaky-gut. This means that inflammation in the gut can now reach out to the brain to create imbalances in the brain too. One likes to think that changes in our diet can reset our immune system, calm inflammation, pacify our nervous system and restore our brain health.

Due to the wide availability of knowledge on the above topics, it is giving me real hope that individuals can be totally empowered to nurture not just their physical health, but also their mental health and their emotional health. The physical, mental and emotional layers of the body are uniquely taken care of through Yoga and Mindfulness practices.
