A Story of Improved Self- Confidence through Children Yoga
Did you know that if you laid out all of the alveoli (air sacs) in your lungs, you would cover the surface of a Tennis court? By age 8, children’s lungs have fully developed with the same number of alveoli as an adult, However breath capacity will continue to expand as each alveoli continues to grow in size.
It is a well known fact that we do not use all of our Breathing capacity when we go on our daily lives however through exercise and deeper breathing, we get to reach the alveoli hidden in the last third of our lungs, a cleansing action for our lungs, as well as adding more energy into our bloodstream
Regis is a snail that finds his shell very heavy to carry, his posture is stooped and he is probably not breathing very well. He often looks down and misses the beauty of nature as he goes around. In fact, he is also quite timid and tends to retract and hide in his shell very often. On his way to school, Regis crawls, he looks up and around and quickly hides if anyone comes by.
When Regis arrives at school, all the other pupils are playing on the playground. There is Juno the Spider, he is a loud, always dancing and moving lad.
Then comes Snaki the Caterpillar, he can be a cheeky character. Lily the Ant is always sitting up tall in class, friendly and smart. Shada, the Butterfly is charming and dreamy, she is floating through her day.
The teacher rings the bells and the pupils enter their classroom.
Sitting stooped on a chair at his desk, Regis slides down the chair in an attempt to hide behind his desk. When the teacher asks him to recount todays’ poem, his voice can hardly be heard.
One day on the playground, the pupils are playing: some are running playing catch, some are jumping, some are skipping, and some are hiding
Actually Regis is hiding behind a bush: how he would love to be able to play with Lily who is jumping over a skipping rope.
At that moment, Snaki appears suddenly cheekily singing: ‘Regis can’t jump, Regis can’t jump’
Regis is so surprised, his shell rocks back and forth off balance and hits a tree. Regis attempts to hide to mask his embarrassment as the friends gather around. But his shell is broken.
Lily steps in to say: Look Regis, you will be so much lighter now, you will be great at jumping over the rope with me!
From now on, Regis holds his head high when walking down the streets, he has made lots of friends. He patched up his shell but committed to never hiding into it unnecessarily. His confidence has improved, he is holding himself well just like his friend Lily. He is still a little shy, but that’s okay, everyone is different.
