Yogamoo ‘Children Yoga in School' Safeguarding Policy – 2025-2026

Purpose

This policy outlines Yogamoo's commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children during after-school yoga clubs. In line with the latest government guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education, all Yogamoo instructors must follow the guidelines outlined below.

1. General Responsibilities

All our instructors have

  • Read and understood this policy before working with children.
  • Completed an appropriate safeguarding training course (e.g. NSPCC, High Speed Training).
  • Follow the school's safeguarding procedures, read part I of KCSiE latest government guideline
  • Know the identity of both the school's DSLs and Yogamoo's DSL.
  • Carry a safeguarding incident report form and contact details of DSLs at all times.

2. Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) – Yogamoo

The Yogamoo DSL is responsible for:

  • Offering advice and support to instructors who raise concerns.
  • Liaising with school safeguarding staff.
  • Maintaining internal records and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Reviewing safeguarding practice annually.
  • Reporting immediate concerns to the authorities should a child be at risk and the schools DSL are not available.

3. Safeguarding Procedures for Instructors

If a safeguarding concern arises (e.g. a disclosure from a child, unusual behaviour, visible bruises, or something heard that causes concern), instructors must:

Step 1: Immediate Action

  • Report concerns to the school DSL or class teacher immediately.
  • Do not wait until the end of the day.

Step 2: Contact Yogamoo DSL

  • Inform the Yogamoo DSL as soon as possible after reporting to the school.

Step 3: Documentation

  • Record the following on the incident form:
  • Child's name
  • Exact words used (if a disclosure)
  • Date and time
  • Observations (visible injuries, behaviour, etc.)
  • Actions taken
  • Submit a copy to the Yogamoo DSL within 6 hours and to the authorities within 24hours

4. If a Child Discloses Harm, our Instructors will

  • Stay calm and listen attentively, do not appear shocked or alarmed
  • Do not ask leading questions. Only open, clarifying questions
  • Do not promise confidentiality.
  • Reassure the child it is not their fault and they did the right thing.
  • Report and record immediately following the steps above. Remain available for calls.

5. Additional Resources and Training

Instructors are encouraged to refresh their safeguarding knowledge regularly and training records are held on file
